In line with current trends in retail shopping centre development, the renovated Somerset Mall aims to attract and keep customers by offering them more than just shopping.
“ Relaxation pods consisting of comfortable lounge furniture are positioned at regular intervals along the new mall, allowing the shopper to take a break and pause to enjoy the space that the new mall and shops create.
“ In line with the overall design, each pod is equipped with charging points, where users can connect to the Mall’ s free Wi-Fi service and get recharged for the rest of the shopping experience. Large potted trees and various planters enjoying the abundance of natural light will be positioned throughout the mall, keeping the visitor connected to the beautiful external landscape of Somerset West,” Liddiard explains.
In July 2026, the final phase will also introduce Freedom Interactive Park, adding a distinctive entertainment element to the tenant mix. This recreational concept will blend technology and social interaction in a busy area.
“ We’ re not reinventing Somerset Mall; we are refining it,” says Wayne Abegglen, Portfolio Executive Western Cape of Hyprop.“ We are enhancing the experience, broadening our offering and ensuring that what we build now will still feel right ten years from now.”
