Crisis Management in Greece: a Case Study

CLIA President and CEO Bud Darr visited Celestyal’s headquarters, recognizing the company’s contribution to discussions on safe operations and industry resilience.

Captain George Koumpenas also spoke at a Hellenic Ports Association panel, highlighting the need for predictable policymaking in an industry that plans itineraries and port operations more than a year ahead. The discussion then expanded to destination development. Through events in Rhodes and Agios Nikolaos, Celestyal showcased how cruise tourism supports regional growth and local communities. In 2025, the company contributed €149.37 million to the Greek economy, generating 647,000 passenger visits and 568 port calls.

The safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz marked more than the successful resolution of a crisis—it became a catalyst for a wider conversation about leadership, resilience, and the future of cruise tourism
