Spirit of altruism : My father was a great example of giving back to his community , family and friends . This was inspired by his faith and his insistence of following the golden rule – treat others as more important than yourself .
Importance of giving back to the community : My attitude of giving back is based on my Christian foundation to love God and my neighbor — always knowing that in giving , we receive . When we give selflessly of our time , talents , and gifts , we receive much more that we give . Our community , state , country and world need everyone to work together for a brighter future for our children .
An aspect of a volunteer experience really enjoyed : After being involved on the Board of Directors for the Meridian Art Museum , I was asked to serve on a task committee for renovations to the facility . My love for art often inspires my work in construction and my background in engineering has taught me skills to accomplish projects in a timely and effective way . Working with the director and task committee , we were able to accomplish a transformation with a limited budget to bring new life to the interior as well as exterior of the building .
Our community ’ s greatest asset : The people . We have some of the kindest , most talented , good hearted people found anywhere in the world . If Mississippi is known as the hospitality state , then Meridian is the heart . We could not ask for a better community of people to live , work , worship and play with every day .
Motto or favorite quote : Teamwork ! Working together , we can make a significant impact in all that we do . Not only are we more effective , working with others brings the greatest joy in life . I always try to tell people when they compliment me on accomplishments , it is always done by a team . A team that works together and supports the efforts of the group always walks away a winner .
