The 'self-improvement' schedule above and the journal entry on page four are both verified Gatsby material. The journal page shows us how big of an optimist Gatsby was, and how much he valued his genuine friend Nick Carraway, so much he wanted to buy him an estate! He was not caught up in the glitz and glamour of our era and truly saw people, the most intriguing being 'Her', a person he loved so much he capitalized their name, like God. We at Time speculate this special person was Daisy Buchanan. The schedule above from several days later shows how focused Gatsby remained even after achieving a high degree of success - the perfect prototype of the American Dream. His motivation and drive to go higher and do better than what was given to him is what made Mr. Gatsby incredible and what ended up being his downfall.
