At first glance, this might not seem very interestng or important in understanding Mr. Gatsby. But this menu gives us worlds of insight into Mr. Gatsby! For example, we see decadent dishes with oysters and lobster, showing us his 'upper class' tastes; however, the menu is also dotted with items such as lefse and fleishkuechle, both examples of classic North Dakotan cuisine (heavily influenced by Eastern European food). The fact that he was dining alone tells us that he doesn't just act high class in front of others, he truly lives the 'American Dream' lifestyle (Oysters Rockefeller, anyone?).
