Consumerism-
The other day, my girlfriends and I met up for tea at our favorite restaurant in downtown and started chatting about the “hot” topics of the moment. I always find it foolish, but we all have fun speculating about wives of other politicians or what America’s society is witnessing now days. The difference of today, is that my good friend Theresa, who is married to the owner of most motor factories in town and knows the most about business, enlightened us about a new description of our 1920s economy: consumerism. This word apparently describes the economic theory which states that a progressively greater level of consumptions is beneficial to the consumer, isn’t this great? Well, not entirely my friends. Since the 1800s and the Industrial Revolution, the world has been consuming at higher rate than ever, allowing products to be available in enormous quantities for the first time in history! This unlimited access has led us to now, when anyone can purchase almost anything at any quantity. The only problem is, Theresa explained us, that this may grow to be expected that people have the latest model of newest appliances, forcing us to do extreme things and make extra shifts just so that we can. Also, don’t buy now and pay later my ladies, you’ll never know when bad times will come and your family won’t be able to pay its debts. Just hold on to the important things in life and keep learning, stay true to yourself my ladies, i’ll talk to you in the next article.
