Room 29:
Cocker dabbles in a more theatrical style of album on his latest work – Room 29. Which tells the tails of LA’s Chateau Marmont Hotel, with a particular focus on its most famous suite; Room 29.
It’s a bittersweet cycle of minimalist tracks accompanied by the gorgeous tinkles of Chilly Gonzales on piano. The two have been touring room 29 which sees Cocker lie in bed on stage as he takes you by the hand and guides you through all of the sordid myths and legends of the goings on in room 29.
Books:
Ok, so… if you don’t own a copy of “Mother, Brother, Lover” – a collection of Cocker’s lyrics over the years, then I suggest that you get onto Amazon ASAP and order yourself a copy. We all know that Jarvis is most famous for his razor-sharp wit, which shines through in in his lyrics. He’s a modern-day Dickens – he’s got the social commentary thing down to a tee; minus the problematic racist undertones of course.
Now even better, he’s just signed a £100,000 book deal for his latest literary project “This Book is a Song” and has the likes of Penguin Random House and Faber and Faber clamouring over him to publish it.
