What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever's available? What made you choose the instruments you have now?
Well, considering that I’ve got fuck all, I’ve got about four different drum kits. But they might as well be made my Frankenstein because they’re just made out of different things that I’ve collected over the past. My breakables live by that name- they always get broken – whether it be head through the skin or cracking a cymbal because I’ve chucked it. So, yea, not really brand affiliated at all. I just use whatever’s there. Obviously if we had a bit of money behind us we would… well, for me myself, if I could learn how to save up I would get a nice Ludwig kit or a nice Gretsch kit. But I know, obviously that Matt is different with guitars. He treats his guitars like a baby and it’s like your partner. You know, he’s got his Epiphone that he would never be without. He’s had some weird guitars that you’ve never heard of like Tokai and stuff like that. But I think that if he had to pick something then he’d go for Gretsch every day of the week. I know that he’s got a really nice acoustic Gretsch. So, speaking for Matt I would probably say Gretsch for him but for me… if I could, it would probably be Ludwig or Gretsch, yea definitely. But it’s only the Guitar’s that are constant. Everything else, we’ll just see what they house have got.
What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
Least favourite venue would be a shitty fucking festival that you’d have to pay an extortionate amount to travel to – to then be told that you have to buy your own booze and then play to fucking no one because it’s never been advertised and it’s in the arse-end of nowhere… not that that’s happened. But as you can probably tell, it has. But, favourite venues especially in Cardiff are Gwdihw which we’re outside now in the lovely Cardiff sunshine – check it out! The Full Moon which obviously, people have fought and possibly died for to get re-opened down Womanby Street in Cardiff – those are the two main ones. But then you’ve got places like The Stag and Hounds in Bristol which has sadly shut down. We played one of the last gigs there and it was fucking immense. We’ve never had a bad gig in there – crowd were fucking amazing; the people are amazing. But then you’ve got the Dublin Castle down in London which we like to play now and again, that’s pretty cool. But yea, home grown… Gwdihw and The Full Moon every day of the week.
