MUSIC

Salutations,

I always start a song with lyrics, as they are the most important aspect of my music, which tend to come from poems I've written but in order to be more rhythmic often the meter and structure has to be changed, I feel this makes for more interesting lyricism as it doesn't often follow the typical rhyming structure of pop music. Lyrically I tend to write about twisted love affairs, religion and ideals of youth but in a introspective way. From the lyrics I can deduce the overall feel and the implied meaning of the song and create a musical atmosphere which represents this - but heaven forbid not a garishly upbeat song.

Through my limited knowledge of music theory, when the dreaded task of writing music comes I sit at the guitar and play for a while recording a lot of different chord progressions and melodies, then with the capabilities the recording software Ableton has to offer you can throw all of the chords and melodies at the metaphorical wall of sound and see what fits. For me personally, I believe this is one of the best aspects of writing music digitally, as it allows you to play as a band would, with a plethora of instant ideas, but recorded with oneself - the perfect solitary love affair.
