Prince Rogers Nelson- named after his father’s jazz act was an innovator, most famous for his perplexing body of work, and flamboyant stage persona. He was a multi-instrumentalist who left very little ground uncovered in terms of genre; he literally covered everything on the musical spectrum from R&B to psychedelia. As if that isn’t enough, Prince managed to simultaneously hold number one spots for his film, album and single. In 1984 his film Purple Rain had shot to number one in the box office, the film’s soundtrack had hit number one the same week and became one of his best selling albums and of course; “When Doves Cry” had held its number one single spot.
