Desks, cupboards and counter tops and other wood finishes have
smooth edges thanks to edge banding. In the olden days, edge banding
was a manual process, however thanks to the advancement in
technology this is no longer the case. Italian brand Biesse has been at
the forefront of taking full advantage of technology with their range of
edge banding machines.

efore the era of technology, edge banding was a
labour-intensive process which required the use
of ordinary wood working tools. As time
progressed, the demand for furniture increased
which put manual edge banding at a disadvantage
because it would not be able to keep up with the supply,
let alone keep up.
When Biesse was established 50 years ago, one of the
focus areas for the manufacturer was to investment in
services and technology designed to help develop digital
factories. The investment paid off because the Italian
manufacturer was able to create a name for itself in the edge
banding industry. This meant that they would be able to
capitalise on the demand for furniture and other wood
products that required edge banding.
MEETING MARKET DEMANDS
The market demands a change in manufacturing processes,
enabling companies to accept the largest possible number of
orders. This is coupled with the need to maintain high quality
standards while offering product customisation with quick
and defined delivery times, as well as responding to the
needs of highly creative designers.
Biesse meets these requirements with technological
solutions that enhance and support technical expertise, as
well as process and material knowledge. The manufacturer
used the automation concept as a guiding principle that
made it possible for the company to create solutions that
paved the way for automated and interconnected production.
