U
sed across the residential, commercial and industrial
sectors in Southern Africa, pre-fabricated timber
roof trusses are highly popular, believes MiTek, the
leading roof truss system supplier in South Africa and
the world.
Boasting a manufacturing facility in Gauteng and regional
offices in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban, MiTek
supplies the local building industry and beyond with the
widest range of timber connectors for both roof truss
manufacturers and hardware stores alike.
According to Hennie Viljoen, MiTek’s marketing manager,
a pre-fabricated timber roof is a fully engineered structure
delivering a practical and versatile roofing solution that is a
cost effective and speedy solution for roof framing. “When
compared with a traditionally built roof, a pre-fabricated

trussed roof will typically deliver considerable material
savings, often using 40% less timber than site-made roof
trusses,” notes Viljoen.
He adds, “The importance of minimising site waste has
never been greater, leading the majority of house builders
to prefer pre-manufactured building components.
Prefabricated roof trusses are manufactured offsite, in a
factory-controlled environment, which ensures that high
quality products are delivered to site with a minimum of
onsite work required.”
