ABOUT MACPHERSONS
Macphersons office furniture, based on the north coast of
Durban, entered the office furniture market in the early
1980s and now supplies many local and top international
branded corporate entities with high quality furniture.
The company was started by Billy Macpherson in central
Durban, and as the business expanded he was forced to
eventually relocate and build his own factory on the north
coast near Ballito.
Macphersons also have showrooms in most of the major
cities in prime locations. Billy Macpherson still handles the
commercial side of the business and his daughter, Kim
Black, assists with sales and showrooms. His son, Tyron
Macpherson manages all production and assists with
custom designs on certain orders.
The company recently upgraded the factory machinery
to deal with market trends and high production levels. As
an ongoing upgrade Tyron Macpherson added a lot of high
technology machinery into the production lines to not only
speed up and achieve a margin of consistency throughout
his range, but also to place the necessary controls to
achieve his production targets. The latest acquisition was
specifically enforced to the change in production
requirements and to add to the strength and durability of
the product.
MACPHERSONS AND THE CMC GROUP
In the initial meeting with national sales director of the
CMC Group, Cecil Schickerling, Tyron notes that drilling and
line boring needed to be upgraded to assist the panel
processing side to have accurate drilling applications. It
also needed complicated routing and slotting to fit all the
latest technology fittings and hinges required which will
be a set standard throughout his product line.
Schickerling adds that the AES Througfeed CNC boring
machine was the correct choice to achieve these
requirements as high and drilling depths need to be
achieved. The versatility of the aEs Sirius, which assists in
