Slated to replace Amaro is Armed Forces of the Philippines
(AFP) chief General Rey ‘Jagger’ Guerrero after his retirement
on April 24 this year. This was announced by President

Department of Agriculture (DA) program for the military in
Mawab, Compostela Valley.

t was seen as both a shock and surprise when
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte sacked Philippine
Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) chief, Marcial
Amaro III, recently. His dismissal was reported due
to reports of his frequent travels abroad, which was
viewed with controversy over the number of trips he
had made, many of which were perceived to be junkets.
A shock for some as this represented a blow to the maritime
sector who perceived Amaro’s trips as strictly business in
nature, ‘helping raise the banner of seafarers and promoting
the very good growth potentials of the industry.’ Of which
some of these trips have been paid for from international
invitations where he represented the country abroad. For
others, this move was considered in line with the new
