PCG rescues

CG: A total of 86 passengers and 10 crew
members of an ill-fated Motor Launch “Anika”
were rescued by personnel from Coast Guard
District South Western Mindanao and BRP
Malabrigo (MRRV-4402) after receiving a distress
report yesterday, around 05:40 P.M. at vicinity
waters of Mataja Island located in the Province of Basilan.
Reports revealed that M/L “Anika” with 67 adult, 17 children
and 2 infants passengers departed Petron Wharf, Baliwasan,
Zamboanga City enroute to Tandubas, Tawi-Tawi which
experienced engine trouble while transiting the waters of
Zamboanga City.
Immediately, BRP Malabrigo was dispatched to conduct
search and rescue operations wherein all passengers and
crew were transferred onboard the said rescue vessel.
Subsequently, the motor launch was towed from Langas
Island to Zamboanga City.
Rescued passengers and crew are all in good condition
while M/L “Anika” is presently docked at Ben Go Wharf,
Zamboanga. coastguard.gov.ph
