A simple three-part pattern for daily prayer based on The Lord ’ s ( Disciple ’ s ) Prayer ( Matthew 6:5-15 ; Luke 11:1-13 ) is :
1 . Praise (“ Our Father , who is in Heaven ”…). Begin your time of prayer by thanking God for who He is and praising Him for things He has done in your life .
2 . Petitions (“ Let Your Kingdom come …”). Ask Adonai for specific things to be done in the world , within your life , and in the lives of others . The “ petitions ” listed in the Disciple ' s prayer include :
Intercession : for God ’ s will to be done (“ Your Kingdom come …”), Provision (“ Give us this day our daily bread …”), Confession (“ forgive us our sins ”), Absolution (“ as we forgive those who have sinned against us …”), and Protection (“ lead us not into temptation , but deliver us from evil …”)
Read – Reading about Yeshua . This is one of the main goals of this reading plan . For this , we encourage writing or journaling about verses from the Gospels which stand out for you in your times of devotion and personal prayer . During your times of prayer , we encourage a commitment to the weekly memorization of Scripture and as we read about the life , work and ministry of Yeshua in the Gospels , for the participants to keep a few questions in mind :
Who is speaking ? Who is being spoken to ? What did this potentially mean to the hearers ? What could this potentially mean for my life today ?
Using a Study Bible or respected Bible Commentary on each of the four Gospels may also be helpful as you read through the verses of Scripture each day .
3 . Proclamations (“ Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory …”) We recommend that you end your time of prayer with a proclamation of God ’ s rule , His reign and His Sovereignty . Yeshua is the Good Shepherd of our souls and through prayer , we can experience His shalom every day .
