For ancient Israel , the festivals ( Moedim ) were centered around harvest time . During harvest , Israel was not simply to do an inventory but instead , they were to count the provisional blessings of the Lord . This was done so that when they took the offering to the Lord , it would be with a heart of gladness and rejoicing because God had blessed them . After all , God promised blessings to His people Israel , when they walked according to His instruction .
The Psalmist , in Psalm 67 , captured the heart of praise and thanksgiving at the harvest time best :
May God be gracious to us and bless us . May He cause His face to shine upon us — Selah
So that Your way may be known on earth , and Your salvation among all nations . Let the peoples praise You , O God . Let all the peoples praise You .
