Summer Juice Cleanse; Is It Really Necessary?
by Michele Thorne
With all the news about juicing lately you can practically get fresh juices and
smoothies at your local fast food joint. It’s more popular now than ever, and in
just a few years juicing and products associated with juicing have created a
multi-billion dollar market. Yes, with a B.
Any industry that becomes a billion dollar industry has probably got a handful of
charlatans who are just along for the cash ride, and then there are those that
really have something of value. Those folks can be tough to find. However, as a
long-time advocate and personal practitioner of juicing and understanding how
food affects the body, this question of necessity has become the object of
contention between juice cleanse supporters and skeptics alike.
The bottom line…necessity is relative. So, here are two questions you can ask
yourself to find out if juice cleansing is really necessary for you.
1. Why do I need to cleanse
anyway?
It’s an honest question. Skeptics
would say that you wouldn’t have
much to cleanse. It is a commonly
held opinion of “juice cleanse”
skeptics that the body does the work
of detoxification on its own. Ironically,
it’s also a popular opinion among
“juice cleanse” supporters. The body
can and does do the work of
detoxification quite efficiently
through the organs of elimination –
the lungs, liver, kidneys and skin.
