ABATE OKLAHOMA

EVENTS

MAY 20-21 – RIVER ROAD RALLY , PONCA CITY by RADAR
April 7th was the 25th annual Legislative Day . Forty-five leather clad bikers descended on the Oklahoma State Capitol to thank our state legislators for their support , and to discuss our concerns on freedom and safety issues .
While forty-five bikers compared to the 128,000 “ M ” endorsed motorcyclists in Oklahoma was a pretty small number , the results were not . Our senators , legislators and their assistants were pleased to see us . Even capitol security commented that they are always glad to see ABATE of Oklahoma bikers because we are the most drama free , polite group that visits the Capitol .
John Pierce , ABATE ’ s Government Liaison representative did his usual suburb job organizing the event . Brook Bullock and other ABATE of Oklahoma members assisted in setting up , handing out breakfast snacks and drinks , looking up member ’ s senators and

legislators ’ room numbers , and finally tearing down the setup . Joe Trails , a . k . a “ Lobby Joe ”, ABATE ’ s professional lobbyist introduced us to many Senators and Legislators .
We were honored when Representative Chuck Hodgkins , a 50 year motorcyclist in his own right , visited us at the Rotenda and stayed for our group photo . Chuck has been a very strong supporter of ABATE of Oklahoma and our agenda . While we were sitting in the House visitors ’ gallery , he introduced us to the legislators . The legislators gave us a standing , rousing ovation .
ABATE of Oklahoma ’ s Biker Legislation Day is a critical element of our defense of motorcyclists ’ legislative efforts . Bikers showing up , in force , sends a strong visual message that we took our time and most often , a day off work , to let our legislators know that we care . Hope to see you there next year .
