GUYMON FIVE STATE RUN
After
reviewing
the hourly weather
map the night before,
with over 150 miles
ahead, thunderstorms
and tornado watches
looming, I knew my
friend Daniel and I
needed to get on the
road as soon as the
sun came up over the
horizon. We were riding
to Guymon, Oklahoma
for the Five State Run in
a brewing storm. This is
one of the most unique
rides in the United
States as it travels
through five states,
Oklahoma, Texas, New
Mexico, Colorado and Kansas.
It’s a run that travels over 300
miles in one day to accomplish
this five state journey. Although
that sounds like a great reason
to ride; the best reason to do

the Five State Run is the charity
money it raises for numerous
people in Western Oklahoma.
Each year the Iron Thunder
Motorcycle Club, a small club
out of the Oklahoma panhandle,
work together to put on a run
to raise funds for those in that
area who are in need. The small
group work twelve months out of
the year to put on what could be
the state’s most unique, as well
as, best attended run around.
Thousands of riders attend every
year and that’s no small feat
seeing how the early May weather
is completely unpredictable and
can range from 45 degrees, rain
and 50mph winds to 80 degrees
from year to year. This year, the
rain fell on most riders as they
traveled in to Western Oklahoma
on Friday. As the rain soaked
riders arrived at our hotel, I was
happy we’d made the decision
to go a few hours earlier than
normal and were able to arrive
on dry roads.
Once all the funds are raised,
