EVENTS GUYMON FIVE STATE RUN After reviewing the hourly weather map the night before, with over 150 miles ahead, thunderstorms and tornado watches looming, I knew my friend Daniel and I needed to get on the road as soon as the sun came up over the horizon. We were riding to Guymon, Oklahoma for the Five State Run in a brewing storm. This is one of the most unique rides in the United States as it travels through five states, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas. It’s a run that travels over 300 miles in one day to accomplish this five state journey. Although that sounds like a great reason to ride; the best reason to do 10 Thunder Roads Magazine of OK/AR the Five State Run is the charity money it raises for numerous people in Western Oklahoma. Each year the Iron Thunder Motorcycle Club, a small club out of the Oklahoma panhandle, work together to put on a run to raise funds for those in that area who are in need. The small group work twelve months out of the year to put on what could be the state’s most unique, as well as, best attended run around. Thousands of riders attend every year and that’s no small feat seeing how the early May weather is completely unpredictable and can range from 45 degrees, rain and 50mph winds to 80 degrees from year to year. This year, the rain fell on most riders as they traveled in to Western Oklahoma on Friday. As the rain soaked riders arrived at our hotel, I was happy we’d made the decision to go a few hours earlier than normal and were able to arrive on dry roads. Once all the funds are raised, the Iron Thunder MC meet to
