CLASS NOTES
1942
Bill Lane and his wife Pauline celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. They have two sons,
three granddaughters and two greatgrandsons “We live on Long Island,”
Bill wrote, “and all in pretty good
health.”
1943
Linwood Kimball has been living at
Hazelton House, across Main Street
from TA, for two years. He visited
Thornton this winter when students
who volunteer at Hazelton did a presentation.
1945
After retiring from the Journal Tribune several years ago, Florence
Garon Bouchard has kept busy volunteering at Southern Maine Medical
Center. In May she was named to the
Maine Governor’s Service Award Honor Roll and also received a Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
1946
Lois Grant Ayer’s husband Vernard
passed away in November 2006.
1947
60th Reunion
Jim Leary and his wife Edna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on
April 15 with a party at the Saco Museum.
1949
Ken Foss and his wife Gloria were in
Maine in June to celebrate their 50th
wedding anniversary.
1951
Ray Smith’s wife Bernice passed away
in early May.
1953
Robert Alvord, physical education
teacher and advisor to the Class of
‘53, returned to TA for the first time
since he left in 1956. He toured the
campus, took photos, and visited with
Elizabeth Morse ‘43, his co-class advisor, as well as members of the classmates. Robert and Demetra Dalapas
Tims were elected to the board of directors of the Universal Round Dance
Council, an international dance organization.
1959
Judith Sullivan Bennett wrote recently that she retired in June 2006 after
31 years of teaching. She is “enjoying
life and doing some traveling.”
1966
Helene Henri Plourde was appointed vice president/manager of Kennebunk Savings Bank’s new office in
Biddeford in February. Wayne Nason
wrote the Alumni Office recently. “I
was hospitalized for last year’s reunion but had visits from Matt Ruben
and his family and Mark Love. Great
seeing them.”
1967
40th Reunion
Maine State Senator Nancy Bowie
Sullivan sponsored a bill in the most
recent legislative session to educate
women and medical professionals

about post-partum depression. Steve
Littlefield retired from teaching industrial arts/technology after 22 years at
Massabesic High School and six years
at Cape Elizabeth High School. Also
retired from teaching, Janice Boutet
Martell has found a new calling. She
is now designing handbags and totes
from salvaged materials and vintage
buttons under the name Jana-Banana.
Janice makes just a few bags at a time,
and no two are alike.
1968
Linda Lisica Scamman has retired
from teaching after 34 years in the
Saco schools. She plans to volunteer at Young School a little in the
fall and figure out what to do next.
James “Bud” Harmon received the
Maine Tourism Association Regional
Award in May. The award recognized
that his “outstanding contributions
have resulted in the advancement of
the tourism industry in Maine.” Bud
has been director of the Old Orchard
Beach Chamber of Commerce for ten
years.
1970
Dick Martin and Janine Pierpont
were married in July. Gene Libby announced that the ninth annual Mary’s
Walk, held each March in memory
of Mary Kerry Libby, raised a record
$167,500 for the Maine Cancer Foundation. “Next year is our 10th anniversary, and we will pass the million dollar mark,” said Gene. “The
campaign will be called ‘10 for Mary’
to encourage people to raise money
from 10 friends, businesses or teams.
We hope to exceed the $200,000 mark
in a single year for the first time.”
1973
Dale Pierson was awarded the Al
Black Lifetime Achievement Award
as Maine horticulturist of the year
in January. His company started as
Pierson’s Lawn and Garden in 1973,
and slowly switched to plant production when the company purchased
land and changed its name to Pierson
Nurseries.
1976
Jeff Nathanson was elected president
of the Cancer Community Center in
South Portland. Rebecca Johnson
Norton now works for Liberty Mutual
Insurance as a customer service representative.
1978
Laurie Lester Mooney has been
named vice president at Biddeford
Savings Bank. She is manager of the
bank’s new branch in Scarborough.
1979
Wayne Hanson was honored by the
Saco City Council in April for 25 years
of service with the Fire Department.
1980
Mark DeFrancesco has launched a
new venture. In addition to his duties
as guidance counselor and girls track
coach at TA, he has partnered with
Lisa Huntress, also a Thornton track
coach, to open Paint Your Own Pottery in Old Orchard Beach. Defo says

1981
Robin Letellier is a grandmother!
Her son, Tim and his girlfriend had a
baby, Sophie, in September 2006.
1983
Chris Peterson and his wife Tina are
moving from Milwaukee to southern
California in the fall. Chris will be associate professor of choral music at
California State University/Fullerton.
Bill Nadeau is working as a building
service control technician at Maine
Medical Center.
1985
Vangel Cotsis and his wife Ericka welcomed a daughter, Mia, in February.
She joins a brother Ellis, 3, and sister, Evy, 2. Angela Searles Boudreau
and her husband Paul adopted a son,
Julius, in April. He joins two sisters,
MyKayla and Jenna, and five brothers, Michael, Dejon, Devan, DeAnthony and Isaiah. Bob Gareau wrote in
March that he and his wife Lisa have
a daughter, Melissa, 17, and a son, Jason, 14. “We have been married for 18
years,” he wrote. “I’m still doing construction. In our spare time we work
on the house we bought in 2001.” The
family lives in Harrisville, RI. Kevin
Letellier wrote in May that he is married, with two children and one stepchild, and living in Sa 6
