Graduation 2007
Thornton Academy presented high school diplomas to
278 students in the class of 2007 on June 3 in the William
S. Linnell Gymnasium.
Thornton Academy Headmaster Carl J. Stasio Jr.
presided over the ceremony. He reminded students
to thank family members, friends, teachers and all of
the unsung heroes who helped make their graduation
possible. This year’s ceremony also included an address
by a special guest, the Honorable Glenn Cummings,
speaker of the Maine House of Representatives. Reflecting
on the life and works of Abraham Lincoln, Cummings
encouraged students always to believe they have
something to give to others, and that self-belief will help
them to thrive in any situation. Valedictorian Matthew
T. Davis, meanwhile, told his classmates to be brave and
bold as they continue on life’s journey after Thornton
Academy.
Diplomas were presented by James E. Nelson ‘67,
president of Thornton Academy’s Board of Trustees,
with assistance from Mary Nasse, then associate head of
school. Awards and donor scholarships were presented by
Stasio and Gregory Paradis ‘91, dean of the senior class.
Rounding out the ceremony was a performance of
“Remember Me This Way” was given by senior soloists
Elizabeth Giacomantonio and Erika Meiler with the
Thornton Academy Chamber Singers and Senior Chorus,
under the direction of Catherine Murray.
