Robert W. Stickles, 82, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Seal Rock Healthcare Facility with his family by his side. He was born in Kennebunk on January 24, 1935 the son of Frank Stickles and Mary Gooch Tate. He lived in Saco and was raised by his mother and his stepfather, Ernest Tate. Bob graduated from Thornton Academy in 1954.

During his time at Thornton, he participated in the chorus.
After graduating, Bob served his country in the US Navy. Following his service, he worked at York Bottling in Biddeford for Sam Cohen for 30 years. His roles included being a truck driver and salesman for Sam and Bernard Cohen. He had a close relationship with Sam Cohen, offering a helping hand whenever one was needed. The Sam Cohen Foundation has been generous in supporting projects at Thornton Academy, most recently supporting the school ' s partnership with Jobs for Maine Graduates and the Arundel Machine Tool Co. Inc / National Tooling and Machining Association partnership to give students technical training in the precision manufacturing industry. Bob also worked for Elegant Homes in Saco for 30 years. Through the years, Bob was always spotted walking around with a cigar in his mouth, though he was never smoking it, and was given the nickname " Stick ".
Though he had graduated, Bob spent a significant amount of time at Thornton. He could always be spotted in the stands during basketball, baseball and soccer games supporting his grandchildren and his alma mater.
He is survived by his wife Theresa of 62 years; sister, Arland Coleman ' 66 of Saco; two sons Ernest Stickles ' 77 and wife Joyce of Biddeford and Robert Stickles, Jr. ' 73 and wife Elaine of Biddeford, and a daughter Mary Ann Martin ' 78 and husband Roger ' 75 of Saco; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
