Members of the greater Saco community gathered at Thornton Academy on Saturday, May 6, 2017 for
the school's 10th annual auction. The theme of this year's event was "Building Community". Thornton
Academy celebrated its longstanding relationships with area partners while raising support to benefit
Thornton Academy students. The 2017 auction was the most successful event to date, raising more than
$121,000.
Thornton Academy's largest on-campus fundraising event featured a lively evening of cocktails from
Dogfish Spirits, inventive hors d'oeuvres from FLIK Independent Dining Services, and one-of-a-kind
auction items. The silent and live auction items included exciting vacation getaways, a signed Rob
Gronkowski jersey, Maine-themed adirondack chairs hand-painted by Thornton Academy students,
a reserved student parking space, landscape design and much more. Over 250 items were donated by
nearly 200 individuals and businesses, a testament to the care and enthusiasm of the community.
The true highlight of the evening was the "Fund-A-Cause". Thornton Academy social workers Jill Santa-
more Blake ‘06 and Ariana Hadiaris made a moving presentation to garner support for the Headmaster's
Student Assistance Fund. This special fund provides free breakfast and lunch as well as everyday ne-
cessities for nearly 300 Thornton Academy students in need. Due to Thornton Academy’s independent
school status, public funding does not pay for these services as it does for surrounding public schools. A
touching outpouring of support from the audience helped raise a record amount of $21,400.00 for this
fund.
A special thank you to all those who helped make Thornton Academy’s 10th annual auction a success.
We are excited to celebrate our 11th annual auction in Spring 2018!
