Olsson returns to campus regularly and considers TA her second home.
asked about her favorite memories,
she smiled and answered that she
loved competing in the Dorm
Olympics and taking trips to
Portland and Boston. Camilla's
passion for soccer sustained and
factored into her desire to play
Division I and return to the US for
her college education following her
senior year (a 13th year required in
Norway).
Upon graduation, Camilla was
recruited to play at Carson
Newman in Jefferson City,
Tennessee, an NCAA Division II
school. During her first season
competing, she played in all 17
matches. Her second season
was nearly complete when she
sustained a season-ending ACL
tear during a late-season match.
The injury left her on crutches for
six weeks and she returned home
for rehab. During her recovery, she
considered the remainder of her
college soccer career and, with her
dreams in mind, began emailing
coaches at Division I schools her
tapes.
After seeing her tapes, the
University of Arkansas at Little
Rock (UALR) contacted Camilla
and invited her to campus for a
visit. During her tour with a coach,
she met a future teammate and
the strength and conditioning
coach. Camilla shared that in this
moment, "I knew this is where I
want to be." The team lives in the
same building, located next to
the field, an attribute that Camilla
recognizes as being good for team
bonding.
Shortly after her visit, UALR
offered her a spot on the team and
a scholarship. Camilla happily
accepted. UALR is a highly
competitive team and was even
nationally televised playing #14
ranked Texas A&M during the 2016
season. She shared that she feels
the competition is much bigger and
there is a notable difference in the
two divisions.
In December of 2018, Camilla will
be hanging up her cleats at UALR
and graduating with her degree
in psychology. She will continue
playing soccer in Norway, Denmark
or the United States following
her college graduation and holds
high hopes of being drafted to the
National Women's Soccer League
where role mo dels Carle Lloyd and
Alex Morgan compete.
