From Garland Auditorium
to the National Stage - Always Pippin
Camden Loeser '14 Tours With
National Stage Company
By David Arenstam
The plot is as old as time itself. A beloved child of the community with
talents and a heart that almost knows no bounds leaves to connect with
a world in a way that will allow him to become one of the best at his
chosen craft. After some time away, he returns once again to share those
talents and reconnect with the loved ones he left beyond.
Camden (center - front row) and many of his teachers,
classmates, and friends celebrate after his performance on the Merrill
Auditorium stage.

That storyline played itself out once
again this past May when Camden
Loeser ’14 strode onto the stage at
Merrill Auditorium in Portland,
Maine with the National Touring
Company of the Broadway show,
Pippin, a show he first performed
while he was a student at Thornton
Academy.
Pippin originally opened on
Broadway in 1972 and Ben Vareen
won a Tony Award as the “leading
player,” the narrator for the play.
The production was revived in
2013, and again won a Tony Award,
this time for the Best Musical
Revival. This latest version includes
a troupe of acrobatic circus
performers, woven into the story.
The show is probably better-known
for its Fosse-style dancing and ’70s
pop feel than for individual songs.
