THORNHILL LIFE
2018
During the recent 2018 winter season, we embarked on a bolder re-
medial project. Thanks to the Trustees and residents, our requested
budget was approved. We also received incredibly generous personal
donations from residents, which bolstered our effort. We were able to
construct a further 3 dam walls as well as sloping the watercourse edg-
es to allow for water to swell out into the open areas instead of carving
through a narrow channel.

The first dam wall is in the road reserve area bordering the P91 mo-
torway. This is where the storm water enters the estate when there is
flooding and controlling the velocity of water coming in, slows it down
at the source, limiting to some extent the force further down stream.
The second dam wall is located next to the Myrtle Road bridge. During
the last rainy season, the entire concrete platform downstream from
the wall collapsed due to extensive churning of water underneath the
bridge. This was immediately rectified and once the dry season al-
lowed for construction to start, the second dam wall was built here.
