At the time of Marion Rose ’ s stage debut , her mom was expecting her younger brother , Ransom . After Ransom was born , his mother saw his artistic ability through his drawings and encouraged him to pursue the arts as well . She began by enrolling him in some acting classes , where Ransom ’ s vibrant personality came to life .
“ He was always theatrical since day one ,” Marion Rose said . “ He would take toys and have creative visions for them as a kid .”
Being a creative visionary , Ransom not only became interested in theatre but also in costume design . He has since gone on to design costumes for Thomas County Central ’ s Masquers productions and Thomasville On Stage and Company ’ s numerous plays and musicals .
His love for costume design has propelled him to consider a future in costume design , as opposed to acting .
“ I love acting so much ,” he said . “ I feel like acting comes more naturally to me , but I feel like as a career , costuming is where I belong .”
While Ransom much prefers the technical aspect of shows , Marion Rose admitted she has never really been a “ techie .” However , she said she would love to try her hand at directing .
“ I think my brother and I are both pretty visionary ,” she said .
Despite having different interests in the theater world , both agreed they could never see themselves as pursuing acting professionally , due to the rate of burnout .
“ I feel like it would be so easy to get burnout , and it ’ s something I love and don ’ t want to happen ,” Marion Rose said .
Ransom also shared a concern for burnout , explaining he was currently on a break from theater , but said his main reason for not wanting to pursue acting as a profession was due to the fact he wanted to learn more about theatre .
“ Wherever I go , acting has always been my thing , but I want to learn more ,” he said . “ I could see myself maybe teaching acting classes someday and I would be happy with that .”
However , Ransom said that won ’ t stop him from performing in community theater shows in college and beyond , even if it ’ s just helping backstage with costuming .
Marion Rose agreed , saying she can ’ t picture herself not performing or singing .
Ransom Young brought the laughs in his portrayal of Uncle Fester in Thomas County Central ’ s production of The Addams Family High School Edition .
Both siblings have a love for the classics they grew up watching such as , “ Phantom of the Opera ,” “ The Wizard of Oz ” and “ Les Miserables ,” but have different visions of the dream role to play .
“ He ’ s into more campy , cultish musicals like Rocky Horror Picture Show or Cats ,” Marion Rose explained . “ I ’ m more into underground , deeper musicals that really mean something and dark musicals like Frankenstein and Nevermore , which is an Edgar Allen Poe Musical .”
Due to his love for “ The Rocky Horror Picture Show ,” Ransom said his dream role would be Frank-N-Furter , while Marion Rose would love to play the role of Eponine in “ Les Miserables .”
While Eponine is her dream , Marion Rose said she also has a longing to play more gender-bent roles .
She previously played Jack in TOSAC ’ s rendition of “ Into the Woods ” and Charlie in “ Willy Wonka ,” which opened her eyes to the possibility of playing any character and continuing to have open dialogue about characters not always played by their traditional sex .
“ It ’ s just theater , playing something you ’ re not ,” she said .
Regardless of her role , Marion Rose and Ransom both agreed they would love the opportunity to work with each other more on stage .
