or The Hullabaloo
Catch a show in Darlington in the magnificent surroundings of
the Edwardian Darlington Hippodrome theatre, offering plays,
opera, comedy, music, dance and pantomime from both local
and touring production companies that take to the stage.
Just next door is The Hullaballoo, the only dedicated children’s
theatre north of London. Theatre Hullabaloo is a pioneering
organisation that makes, tours and promotes theatre for young
audiences up to the age of 16. The theatre also has an ever-
changing free creative play space and family-friendly café.

Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar

Queen Anne building that began
life as a Free School for Boys. The
Kirkleatham Estate will open its
new Walled Garden in spring.

at Hartlepool
Marina

paddleboarding at Hartlepool Marina. Go
on a Seafari experience, available throughout
summer, and discover the local wildlife while
doing some seal spotting. There are plenty of
shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to explore
around the marina too.

enjoy the maritime arts festival, Hartlepool
Waterfront Festival, which includes live
performances, artworks, family-friendly
activities and food and drink throughout the
weekend.

modern art at MIMA
If you want something a bit more
contemporary, check out the
Middlesbrough Institute of Modern
Art, one of the UK’s leading museums of
its kind. It offers changing exhibitions,
collection displays, and learning activities,
touching on timely and urgent themes.
Located outside MIMA is the iconic
Bottle of Notes sculpture, a landmark
which has been attracting visitors for more
than 25 years.
