A clean spin on future skills
The Education Training Collective( Etc.) has been named a Clean Energy Technical Excellence College by the Department for Education.
One of just five Clean Energy TECs announced nationally, it puts the Teesside college group at the forefront of clean energy and low-carbon skills development and is recognition of the group ' s work to prepare for current and future skills needs.
Grant Glendinning, Etc. chief executive officer, said:“ This is a fantastic acknowledgement of what has been a real targeted effort to prepare for changes that are happening all around us and ensure there is a pipeline of talent in place.”
The Etc. will now build on links with employers, industry leaders, further and higher education colleagues to navigate the direction of training and skills development in preparation for the complex industry demands ahead. Central to all of this has been the Clean Energy Education Hub at Redcar and Cleveland College, developed alongside employers and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, and made possible with government Town Deal investment.
The hub is equipped with specialist facilities to support training in the likes of hydrogen, carbon capture usage and storage, electrical systems and both onshore wind. This, with the addition of core engineering construction disciplines, has made it a catalyst for further future-facing initiatives and developments.
CETEC capital investment will see the addition of further specialist employer-aligned facilities, equipment and resources, designed to support learners in related subject areas in the region and beyond.
The government’ s Technical Excellence College( TEC) programme operates on a“ hub and spoke” model, encouraging colleges and training providers to work together to share best practice and facilities, with“ strategic spokes” acting as leaders in their regions.
Grant said:“ Collaboration is at the centre of the TEC model and here at the Etc. that aligns with our ethos.
“ While we, like everyone else, are at the beginning of this journey, we look forward to building on lessons learned so far and working with employers and education colleagues to ensure we are ready to respond to the challenges of an industrial landscape that is shifting at pace around us.”
