Training – scaffolders at work in the All Access Academy.

Walk into the brand-new NETA-led All Access Academy in Redcar and you can’ t fail to be impressed.

Believed to be one of the biggest scaffolding training facilities in the country, it is the latest development to be unveiled by the Education Training Collective( Etc.).
Its aim is to deliver the training needed to help tackle current and future scaffolding skill shortages.
Already warmly welcomed by the sector, it is bricks-and-mortar evidence of yet another way the Teesside-based college group is listening and responding to industry demand.
“ It is about creating quality training environments where people can gain the valuable skills that are most needed to fill skills gaps and lead to meaningful careers,” said Karl Johnson, the newly-appointed director of NETA Training.
“ Scaffolding literally underpins the structure that so many trades operate from, yet latest NASC figures show the UK scaffolding and access sector faces a shortage of 40,000 skilled workers, with demand only expected to grow.”
Comprising three dedicated scaffolding training areas, the £ 4.7m All Access Academy is now delivering a range of CISRS scaffolding courses, including COTS, Part 1, Part 2, Advanced, Basic and Advanced Inspection and CPD.
The purpose-built 750-sq m training facility was planned, designed and delivered working closely with sector leaders, and made possible with funding from the government’ s Levelling Up Partnership fund following a successful bid by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. It is a great example of the Education Training Collective’ s partnership work at its finest and one of a host of developments taking shape across the Teesside-based college group.
For NETA director Karl, it is an exciting time to be joining the organisation.
In Thornaby, the all-new £ 14.7m NETA Training centre is well underway and due to open its doors later this year.
Alongside its facilities in Redcar and Portrack, the new centre will see NETA continue to deliver training for commercial delegates in the likes of welding, fabrication, electrical, mechanical, pipefitting, health and safety, rigging and lifting, domestic and commercial gas training, as well as training for school leavers and apprentices.
Karl said:“ Engineering and its surrounding skills are front and centre of local and national skill priorities.”
Of feeding vital skills into growth sectors, he added:“ It is exciting to be part of that.”
With an investment of £ 4.5m in Thornaby Town Deal funding, the new NETA Training centre in Thornaby is a priority intervention to bring long-term change and investment to the town as part of its Town Deal with the support of the Thornaby Town Deal Board, delivered in partnership with Stockton Council.
