SHAPING THE
Tulway Engineering: building skills, capacity and
FUTURE confidence in Teesside
Continuing to strengthen its position as one of the north of England’ s leading high-integrity engineering businesses, Tulway Engineering is combining investment in people, facilities and technology with a growing portfolio of nationally significant projects.
Operating from two substantial workshops on Teesside, Tulway provides specialist pipework fabrication, welding, mechanical installation and engineering support to customers across the energy, industrial, nuclear, gas transmission and process sectors.
At the heart of the business is its commitment to developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
Tulway’ s latest group of apprentices achieved outstanding results, including distinctions in their technical qualifications. These achievements reflect the effort and dedication of the apprentices themselves, together with the experience and support provided by Tulway’ s welding supervisors, mentors and senior tradespeople.
Apprentices are not treated as additional labour at Tulway – they are given structured training, practical experience and exposure to the standards expected within high-integrity engineering environments. This includes learning about weld quality, material control, traceability, health and safety, inspection requirements and the importance of getting every stage of the manufacturing process right.
The company’ s welding training school plays an important role in this development.
Tulway has invested in a dedicated training environment where apprentices, existing employees and newly recruited welders can develop and test their skills. The facility supports practical welding development, coded welder qualifications and continued improvement across a wide range of materials and processes.
This in-house capability allows Tulway to maintain a strong pipeline of skilled welders while supporting the wider demand for qualified engineering personnel across Teesside and the UK. Tulway’ s Teesside manufacturing operation now includes two workshops, supported by 11 overhead cranes and extensive welding, fabrication, testing and material-handling facilities. Across its carbon steel and non-ferrous operations, the business has the capacity to produce more than 1,000 welds every week.
This level of output provides customers with a genuine volume fabrication solution, while Tulway’ s systems ensure that quality and traceability remain central to delivery.
The company operates more than 60 welding bays and has more than 120 third-party-approved welding procedures covering a wide range of materials and applications. Its digital weld monitoring systems provide detailed visibility of welding activity, qualifications and quality records, helping customers meet the demanding documentation requirements associated with major infrastructure and industrial projects.
Tulway’ s recent achievements demonstrate how this investment is translating into major opportunities.
The company has successfully delivered a significant off-site fabrication programme for Bilfinger, completing more than 26,000 welds across a demanding project schedule. The work was delivered using Tulway’ s Teesside facilities, workforce and quality systems, demonstrating the company’ s ability to manage large-scale fabrication packages while maintaining control over programme, safety and quality.

the development of its liquid air energy storage projects. The company is contracted to support Highview’ s Carrington development and is positioned to provide additional engineering, fabrication and site support as the programme progresses.
Highview’ s plans extend beyond Carrington, with a wider pipeline of proposed energy storage plants across the UK. This represents a significant opportunity for Tulway and the wider Teesside supply chain to contribute to the development of new energy infrastructure.
Tulway is also actively engaged in opportunities connected to Net Zero Teesside, carbon capture, hydrogen, sustainable fuels, nuclear engineering and the expansion of the UK’ s gas and energy networks.
For Tulway, continued growth is not simply about increasing turnover. It is about building a sustainable engineering platform capable of supporting major customers while creating skilled, longterm employment.
By combining apprentice development, welding training, modern manufacturing capacity and experienced leadership, Tulway is helping ensure that Teesside has the people and facilities required to deliver the next generation of UK energy and industrial projects.
The company’ s message is clear: worldclass engineering capability already exists in Teesside and Tulway is ready to play its part in delivering the projects that will shape the region’ s future.
