Shaping the nation
How Steel Benders UK is powering the UK ' s green revolution
Teesside, long known for its industrial grit, is once again stepping confidently into the national spotlight. At the centre of this resurgence is Steel Benders UK( SBUK), a firm whose innovation and ambition is helping shape the infrastructure of the UK ' s low-carbon future.
SBUK is not only the largest steel bending, profiling and forming specialist in the North- East, it is also a critical partner in industries as diverse as offshore energy, marine, defence and manufacturing.
Now, with a bold seven-figure investment in new technologies and facilities, the company is expanding its capabilities – and Teesside ' s reputation – on a national scale.
The company’ s move from its longstanding base in Middlesbrough to a new six-acre site on Brenda Road in Hartlepool is more than just a relocation. It represents a strategic leap forward in capacity, innovation and ambition.
Central to the Hartlepool facility is the only 8x2m fibre laser cutting bed in the north of England – a cutting-edge machine that enables unprecedented precision and throughput.
This is supported by a suite of advanced equipment, including a state-of-the-art plasma cutter, HD profile burner, increased press braking capacity and, most notably, the recent acquisition of a Davi 4-roll plate rolling machine.
This transformative piece of equipment
allows SBUK to roll steel plates up to 90mm thick and three metres wide, enabling the production of some of the thickest steel cylinders in the country.
These components are essential for major green energy projects such as hydrogen storage, offshore wind monopiles and critical subsea infrastructure.
“ The Davi 4-roll machine is transformative for us and perfect for the UK’ s green energy ambitions,” said SBUK managing director Tania Cooper.
“ The scale of components we can now produce means the UK no longer has to rely so heavily on overseas suppliers. We’ re manufacturing the very backbone of our sustainable future, right here in Teesside.”
SBUK’ s role in the UK’ s net-zero transition extends well beyond rolling steel. The company is deeply involved in the fabrication of underground pipelines, chemical storage vessels and other core infrastructure required for decarbonisation.
“ For the steel industry to be recognised for these monumental rolls is fantastic," Tania said.
" Historically, steel has sometimes been viewed as a sunset industry, but to have such a vital place in the renewables future is incredibly important for the industry, and certainly for Steel Benders UK.”

regional. The Hartlepool expansion means more high-quality jobs, enhanced local supply chains and the use of Teesside’ s excellent transport and port infrastructure to serve projects across the UK.
“ This move is not just about expanding our physical footprint," Tania said. " It ' s about expanding our capabilities, our reach and, most importantly, creating valuable employment opportunities for the talented workforce in the Tees Valley.”
SBUK’ s capabilities serve a broad array of sectors – marine, petrochemical, architectural, civil engineering and defence – demonstrating its ability to deliver high-spec components across demanding industries.
From naval vessels to intricate structural steelwork, the firm’ s technical versatility is unmatched in the region.
By investing in technology, talent and Teesside itself, Steel Benders UK is not just fabricating components – it’ s helping build the future foundations of a greener, more resilient UK.
