WORDS: DAVE ROBSON PICTURES: TOM BANKS
It’ s a golden anniversary year for a trusted Teesside firm that’ s driven its way to becoming a major national player. After 50 years of providing quality, service and value to the vehicle parts and refinish markets, Fleet Factors continues to hit the gold standard.
Back in 1975, Mike Hunter and John Smith set up a business supplying brake linings for lorries in Cargo Fleet, Middlesbrough.
It supplied fleets of vehicles, it was based at Cargo Fleet and the aim was to be fleet of foot – hence the name.
The name has served it well for 50 years and, with its emphasis on investing in new talent, will continue to do so for many more to come.
But nowadays it does so much more than provide its original three products – brake shoes, hydraulic hoses and clutches.
From its smart premises on the Skippers Lane Industrial Estate – home since 1980 and situated just around the corner from its original Murdoch Road base – the Fleet Factors network now covers the whole of the UK and is a first-choice supplier to the truck and trailer parts and refinish markets.
It stocks an astonishing number of parts – well over 700,000 – has 26 main sites, operates more than 250 managed sites and runs more than 250 delivery vehicles across the country.
Indeed, it’ s now one of, if not the, largest independent components distributor / supplier in the UK.
It was also crowned Tees Business of the Year at the inaugural Tees Business Awards in 2023.
Every new van this year and onwards will have the classy new 50th anniversary logo
Reach – the Fleet Factors network now covers the whole of the UK.
