The future of education is here in the Tees Valley

THE LEARNING

REVOLUTION

In the heart of the Tees Valley, a quiet revolution is taking place. Atomix Educational Trust isn ' t just reimagining education – it ' s fundamentally reshaping what it means to learn, grow and succeed in the 21st century.

With roots stretching back to 1561, the trust has evolved from its historic foundations into something altogether more dynamic. Today, it stands as a beacon of progressive education, serving learners from nursery age through to executive level across five distinctive settings. But what truly sets Atomix apart isn ' t just its breadth – it ' s the bold vision driving every decision.
" We ' re not content with simply delivering good education," explains Dr Nichole Munro, chief executive officer of Atomix Educational Trust.
" We ' re creating an ecosystem where mental wellbeing, global perspectives and real-world readiness converge. Every learner who walks through our doors – whether they ' re three or 33 – deserves an education that transforms not just their knowledge, but their entire life trajectory."
This transformation is built on three revolutionary pillars that support every aspect of the trust ' s work.
Mental health and wellbeing aren’ t an afterthought here – it ' s woven into the fabric of daily life. With on-site mental health practitioners and emotional literacy embedded in the curriculum, students aren ' t just surviving, they ' re thriving.
The second pillar, internationalisation, ensures no learner is left behind in our interconnected world. Through the innovative Turing Fund, every single student has access to international experiences.
Picture this: teenagers from Stockton collaborating on environmental projects in Portugal, primary school children connecting with peers in Germany and sixth form students undertaking transformative work placements in Sri Lanka. These aren ' t distant ambitions – they ' re happening right now, breaking down geographical barriers and building global citizens.
Perhaps most groundbreaking is the trust ' s approach to employability and entrepreneurship, exemplified perfectly by the Aviation Generation programme. This pioneering initiative represents a new blueprint for education-industry collaboration.
Working alongside an impressive consortium including British Airways, Boeing, Embraer, Heathrow Airport, the Royal Air Force and EasyJet, Atomix is cocreating pathways into the global aviation ecosystem.
" What we ' re building with Aviation Generation goes far beyond traditional career guidance," shares Dr Noel Dennis, director of business development.
" Students engage with every facet of aviation – from engineering and air traffic control to digital infrastructure and sustainable aviation fuels. They ' re mentored by industry leaders, gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, and develop as ' career athletes ' ready to navigate this dynamic sector."
The trust ' s ambitions extend significantly into adult and executive education. Recognising the evolving needs of professionals and regional economies, Atomix is developing sophisticated programmes for career advancement and sector transition.
From autumn 2025, its executive
education suite will launch, offering highlevel leadership development designed in collaboration with global businesses and sector experts.
These executive programmes will blend strategic thinking, innovation and adaptive leadership – addressing the complex challenges facing tomorrow ' s leaders. Whether it ' s digital transformation, sustainable business practices or crosscultural management, these courses will equip professionals with the agility and insight needed in an ever-changing business landscape.
The trust ' s adult education provision already demonstrates this forward-thinking approach. Working directly with regional employers, it’ s creating flexible, industryaligned programmes that enable career pivots and progression. From technical reskilling to leadership development, these offerings ensure education remains a lifelong journey, not a finite experience.
As the Tees Valley continues its economic transformation, Atomix Educational Trust stands as both partner and pioneer. By nurturing emotionally resilient, globally connected and professionally prepared individuals across all life stages, they ' re actively shaping the region ' s future workforce and leadership.
The message is clear: this isn ' t education as usual. It ' s education as it should be – ambitious, inclusive and utterly transformative. For the learners within its walls and the communities it serves, the future isn ' t something to prepare for – it ' s something they ' re actively creating, one innovative step at a time.
