Technip Energies.
With more than 17,000 employees across 34 countries, it has a significant global footprint – but its involvement in NZT Power underscores an enduring commitment to the UK.
Since establishing UK operations in 2012, the company has played a pivotal role in a wide array of critical energy projects including carbon capture, hydrogen production, sustainable aviation fuel, energy from waste, transport and storage infrastructure and a variety of activities in the process industry sector.
And with the North-East emerging as a strategic hub for this work, thanks to initiatives such as NZT Power, Technip Energies’ involvement is well-placed to propel the region’ s energy transition.
But the regional focus is more than symbolic, with the project expected to create and support more than 3,000 construction jobs and generate up to 1,000 permanent roles during its operational phase.
For the Tees Valley – an area with a proud industrial heritage – NZT Power represents not only a new kind of power station but also a new chance for prosperity, with sustainable, long-term economic benefits.
Paul Jeffers, Teesside business manager at Technip Energies, believes it’ s not only encouraging to see an international company such as Technip Energies investing in decarbonisation, but doing so in a way that brings tangible benefits to the communities and businesses on the ground.
He said:“ Our project colleagues at Technip Energies and Balfour Beatty are working closely with local stakeholders to prepare the future workforce. They’ re in the community, promoting STEM careers and supporting local educators with valuable labour market insights. In the first six months of the project, they’ ve already dedicated around 100 hours of educational engagement and reached over 500 students and teachers.
“ This project is not just about infrastructure – this is about jobs, skills, and long-term investment in our community.”
Even within the Technip Energies’ North- East team, many have used their skills elsewhere – until now.
Paul explained:“ For years, some of our most talented professionals had to take their expertise abroad to find opportunities that matched their skills.
“ Now, thanks to this groundbreaking NZT Power and Northern Endurance Partnership project right here on our doorstep, they’ re coming home.
“ We have people on our team who’ ve worked across the globe on large infrastructure projects for decades, now applying that world-class experience right here in Teesside.
“ It’ s not just about jobs – it’ s about building a future where our homegrown talent can thrive, innovate and lead their own community.”
One of those homegrown Technip Energies team members is local content and social impact manager Laura Bains.
With a background in social value and social impact within the construction industry, she’ s excited by what Technip Energies can bring to NZT Power and the Tees Valley as a whole – because whether it’ s engaging with the local Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise sector, supporting young people or liaising with local businesses, Technip Energies is determined to be an important part of the Tees Valley community.
Laura said:“ The aspiration for the project is that it significantly benefits the Teesside area.
“ An aspect we’ ll be looking at includes investment of project finances locally so that, where practicable, we’ ll look to engage with local supply chain partners and offer opportunities for local businesses.
“ We’ re also hoping to be very active within the local area around skills provision.
“ There’ ll be a lot of work done with schools and colleges to prepare the future workforce for their next steps in terms of getting them ready to enter industry.
“ We want to provide a legacy in terms of skills development and raising the aspirations of local young people.”
In short, Technip Energies’ pivotal role in NZT Power marks a turning point in how we think about energy generation and emissions management.
This isn’ t just a new power development – it’ s a new model for the future.
The world will be watching Teesside – and Technip Energies will be at the heart of the action.
