Why are convenience
stores at petrol
stations more
expensive than other
retail stores?
A spot check by the Think Business Team found
that goods at convenience stores specifically the
ones located at petrol filling stations in Kenya are
more expensive compared to similar consumer
products at other retail stores. Shoppers willingly
visit these particular stores and once in, the price
tags are overpriced from the normal rates.

The Consumer Protection Act 2012, which was later
assented on 14th march 2013, states that Consumers have
the right to goods and services of reasonable quality, to the
information necessary for them to gain full benefit of goods
and services, protection of their health, safety and economic
interests and compensation for loss or injury arising from
defects in goods and services. The act only spells out the rights
of consumers with regards to dissatisfaction from products
and services and there being no protection from over pricing of
products.
