II. INTRODUCTION
Textile Hybrid structures belong to a flourish set of
structural systems in the field of lightweight archi-
tecture. Their intrinsic beauty, lightweight, structural
efficiency and portability have attracted the interest of
engineers and designers in the last years.
In 2011, the professor Kazuhiro Kojima dazzled the de-
sign field with a novel structural skin. “The Moom pavil-
ion” which is the world’s first membrane structure that
combining a tensile membrane material and discretely
placed compression members [Kojima 2011, para.1].
Moom doesn´t belong to the existing stablished types of
membrane structures: self-supporting frame structure
and air inflated membrane structures. Due to the novel-
ty, this structure have awaken the interest of engineers
and designers.
Henio Engels was the engineer who classified the be-
havior of different types of structures [Lienhard, 2014].
Curved beams and membranes structures that base
their geometry on the elastic deformation are defined
as “form-active” (membrane) and “Bending-active”
(beams). A hybrid of these categories has a result a sys-
tem whose stiffness is much higher than the stiffness of
the bent element itself. Hybrid structure systems result
from the linkege of two parental systems of dissimilar
internal load transmission into a coupled system.
The present document will disclose new approaches and
applications for hybrid structural membranes thinking in
its structural efficiency, fabrication process and in its
aesthetical qualities.
While the concept of tensegrity is not new, it was de-
veloped 6 decades ago and it has gained popularity in
recent years.
It is worthy to mention that it is possible to create several
types of typologies to achieve the structural equilibrium.
And there are different paths to develop an academic
research. This document is structured in order to im-
plement the technology over a large span roof whitout
central supports and over discrete surface.
