It was made an analysis in the variations of the micro-structure of
the knitted textile and its behavior on the surface (Figure A15).
Form-finding: The tensile surface affects the bending-active
boundary, creatting the saddle-like shape. The numerical model
was done in Processing (programming language), which provides
relative values between the two material components. The textile
is simulated with a tensile spring mesh.
Structural behaviour: There are a data driven between the dig-
ital model to the fisical. The computational data is translated de-
fining regions of knit density. The relationship between the textile
and bending were explored through empirical physical testing
and aproximated computational simulation (Figure A16).

3.2.5. “ACTIVE-BENDING MEETS TENSEGRITY”
Year: 2015
Context: Structural research
University: Technische Universitat Munchen
Description: Proposal structure for the magazine IASS 2015. To-
pological exploration in hybrid active bending (Figure A17).
Software: no data.
Form finding: They following this premise “form follows the
tension”. It is using elastically bent glass fiber composites in com-
bination with polyester membranes and belts, to form a modular
structure with inner equilibrium and stability.
Figure A16: Processing user interface. Data environment
Structural behavior: The basic module consist of two elasti-
cally bent spring-steels rods, which are positioned orthogonally
one to each other. A membrane is tied to their four points, while
two cables connect the extremities of one arc to the center of the
opposing arc.
