Internship Description
& Experience
NSSRA provides a 14 – 16 week internship to give students
an opportunity to grow as professionals beyond the
academic setting.
This internship is designed to allow a student to translate
theories learned in the classroom to practical experiences
in the work setting. All internship students will work under
the direction of a full-time staff member who is a Certified
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). An internship
with NSSRA will be a learning experience to prepare
the student for an entry level position in the field of
therapeutic recreation. The internship will include:
• Exposure to a wide range of ages and disabilities
• Exposure to the therapeutic recreation process in a
work setting including: assessment, program planning,
development and implementation, documentation,
evaluation and supervision
• Exposure to various recreation administration duties
including: policies and procedures, meetings, outreach
and advocacy
• Training and workshop opportunities in areas of
behavior management, safety, staff orientation and
more
• Opportunity to visit partner agencies and/or other
SRAs to learn the routine of program staff in additional
settings
