F E A T U R E R E V I E W // R O G M A X I M U S X I G E N E to your system is not to be overlooked. It is a large appeal of any ASUS board and of course it works even better on the ROG models including this one. MY OVERCLOCKING EXPERIENCE Overclocking is of course where the best aspect of the GENE are to be found for me. I have previously referred to the DRAM and overclocking profiles on ROG boards. They’ve come in quite handy and help facilitate the process of turning your system for all sorts of overclocking. Against the magnificent Maximus X Apex, the Maximus VI Gene is just as capable and some have said even better. I’ve no reason to dispute or doubt this as the records are proof positive of this. I found this motherboard to be just as capable as well when overclocking the Core i9 9900K used for review here. The board features identical profiles (At least with the testing 0602 BIOS) as the previous boards and they work just fine here as well. Caution should be exercised as some settings do not seem to have carried over well. This can be seen from some entries which display illegible with the profiles loaded. Adjusting these are easy enough however and AUTO setting seem to work just fine including the 4133 C12 profiles. 20 The OverClocker Issue 46 | 2019 In many ways the Gene is similar and maybe better than the Maximus X APEX especially under extreme conditions (LHe for example) or with the Core i9 9900K. It’s when it comes to everyday overclocking where it can get a little challenging. That’s to say kits which worked on the Mamximus X Apex at some frequency (stability as well) had some instability which were resolved by selecting a lower memory divider. I did attempt to key in the settings which worked on the APEX, but this didn't work unfortunately, Odd when one considers the XOC overclocking memory profiles work exactly as they should . This is a situation that may change with a BIOS update or could very well be isolated to this specific kit. The unfortunate part is if you happen to have such memory, you'll have your work cut out for you. Fortunate then that the Gene has all manner of memory tuning options for you to try. THE EVERYDAY EXPERIENCE For years on end, it’s been tough finding a ROG board that one doesn’t like. For a number of people I’ve spoken to actually over the years. Purchasing an ROG board is the default or preferred option. This is irrespective of the material
