WatchWord Live
In January 2026, WatchWord was launched on The Hunger Games: On Stage at Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre where it is available at every performance. Our solution was chosen because of the challenging 360 degree playing space and the producers’ desire that the captions be visible wherever audience members choose to look. In the foyer, our software offers a loop of text welcoming caption users to the theatre and, inside the auditorium, it listens to what is happening on stage and outputs pre-prepared captions as the show unfolds. Audience members can choose between inclusion and boosts footfall.
Our software can deliver pre-prepared scripted captions automatically to timecode or responsively to live voices and it can take in a live transcription feed for unscripted events or scenes.
Using our app which sits on phones or smart glasses controllers, visitors can personalize their experience, choosing the size, colour, position, and language for their captions to suit them and the site they are attending
smart glasses and tablets; both types of devices are provided as a complimentary add-on by the theatre and bookable in advance via the online ticketing system or in-person upon arrival at the venue. While WatchWord was primarily introduced as an accessibility service for deaf, deafened, and hard of hearing people, the theatre finds that a huge number of users are non-English speakers who want to be able to access subtitles to help them understand the English dialogue. It has helped the theatre to reach new audiences and provide a fuller experience to those who would ordinarily miss out.
