She said, ‘I wish you all the best of luck, go out to Colorado and get it done’.” It would be a surprise - and a mistake - if Davies is not called upon to captain Europe and to contribute towards the future development of women’s golf in Europe. She has been the face of European golf for almost 30 years, winning four majors and an astonishing 84 tournaments worldwide, as well as being the record points scorer in the Solheim Cup. She is a one-off, enjoying gambling, owning a racehorse, possessing a love of fast cars and she has never had a lesson in her life. But just think how much the likes of Charley Hull and Melissa Reid

could learn from her. Without her, the Solheim Cup will be a little like salt without pepper. But at least when it takes place in Germany in two years’ time, Europe will be defending the trophy and looking for a third won on the trot. The quality of golf played at Colorado Golf Club was sensational, with Neumann’s European team producing a historic victory. Everywhere you looked, there were stars. Before we get carried away with the Europeans, mention has to be made of the performance of Paula Creamer, whose putting over the three days reminded me of Ian Poulter in the Ryder Cup. She is a proud and passionate American and this event brings out the best in her. Unfortunately, she ran out of steam in the singles. Even more unfortunately,
