Outside entertaining
The warm weather is back,
allowing us to entertain in the
garden again. Sarah Moores
shows us how to spruce up your
entertaining area by adding
a touch of spring to the table
setting and the garden, using
products which are available in
Zimbabwe.
The table
As the table should be the central feature in the
entertainment area, you want to give it a real wow factor. To
get the spring look, use bright, bold and contrasting colours
on the table. Look for bright napkins and if you bunch up
several paper napkins together, it will make a show of colour
in the glass. Use bright table mats or even a bright and bold
tablecloth.
Looking for pots
that will blend
in?
Buy big concrete bricks
with holes in them.
Paint them the colour
you want and fill
with bright colourful
annuals. Sarah has
lined her courtyard
with beautiful pink
petunias in big
concrete bricks and
painted them the
same colour as the
wall so they blend
in perfectly.
To get the
spring look, use
bright, bold and
contrasting colours
on the table.
Sarah has used lime green
table place mats from The
Gallery in Borrowdale,
which contrasts well with
the fuschia pink napkins
from Pick’n Pay and the
silver melamine under
plates from Aura in
Borrowdale.
If you are going for a bright and bold
look, use colourful spring flowers that
will stand out and not get lost on the table.
Bring other interesting features to the table like lemons,
oranges or naartjies, you could even use lettuce or cabbage
in a bowl of water as a table decoration. The antiqued pieces
look good on a spring table too. For special meals, use small
picture frames for table places. Don’t forget to bring out the
silver to add the sparkle!

Need a table for outside entertaining?
You don’t have to splash out. Get creative by using old tressle table tops, pallets, old doors and place them on top of concrete
pedestals. Sarah has used concrete pedestals, an old tressel table top and then painted the legs and top the same colour.
