CELOSIA The Ice-cream Cherry red is a fun , sun loving , compact , cone shaped annual , growing to a height of 30cms . They work well in pots or in the garden if planted en masse – you could even use them as mini Christmas trees for table decoration .
SALVIAS The well-known Salvia splendens is now available in six or seven different colours , but the favourite still being the red . The Salvia Reddy Bright Red produces a large number of bright red spikes above dark green foliage . It is an ideal low maintenance and heat tolerant annual .

IMPATIENS For a splash of red at Christmas , Busy Lizzies ( impatiens ) are a must either in pots , hanging baskets or in the garden . Our very hot summer sun may scorch the petals , so semi shade is a better option than full sun . To prevent disappointment , do spray against Downy Mildew during the rains .
