In the Zettabyte world , manufacturing and transportation are both greatly enhanced by connected mobility . To reduce latency , in many cases data will have its entire lifecycle at the Edge , without ever going through a data center .
The most visible example of this is connected and autonomous vehicles . Advanced driver-assist systems ( ADAS ) will help passenger vehicles and freight transport stay safer on the road . Further down the line , fully autonomous vehicles will take human error out of driving , with “ drivers ” that are never tired , distracted or impaired . Both ADAS and autonomous vehicles will constantly exchange data with other cars , satellites , and even IoTenabled street signs and stop lights .
You don ’ t have to hit the road to see how data enhances the manufacturing industry , however . Factories will use enhanced data capacity and speed to support modeling and manufacturing . Designers will be able to collaborate in real time from multiple locations to create mockups and prototypes in 3D virtual reality or augmented reality spaces . Line workers will use VR and AR to guide assembly . Automated work will be continuously monitored through IoT sensors .
Finally , the Zettabyte world will enable new revenue models and lines of business for manufacturers . Many will shift from a product model to a service model , using hundreds of sensors to collect data and monetize it .
