Your portfolio is quite diverse as well? What do
you think is your specialty? Do you just enjoy
one style of photography or do you constantly
experiment?
I love B&W documentary photography that
reflects on the struggles of mankind, especially,
poverty, education, and eyesight. I do enjoy
other styles of photography, but I would like to
keep my signature style.
My interest in travel has always dealt with what
makes the place “tick” and that usually revolve
around the culture and the people in that area.
I am constantly amazed by the ethnic and
cultural diversity in our world: from our gender
to our skin colors to our race and our religion,
and the differences in our languages, beliefs,
and customs. But unfortunately it is also these
differences that has caused so much conflict
in our world in the past and now. There must
be a way of peaceful co-existence between
people of different races, cultures and value
systems.
project for me. To me travel photography is
more than just a pretty face at a pretty place.
I document cultures that are threatened by
modernization and globalization, cultures
facing rapid changes and maybe even
extinction in our lifetime. I document the
social issues and explore the challenges
that arise where people’s lives are caught
between the past and present, where modern
society has touched and left behind. But the
underlying basis of my photography, as with
most travel photography I think, is to foster
inter-cultural understanding and tolerance in
order to promote friendship and peace around
us. I think when people begin to understand,
respect and accept their differences without
judgment, then they can really begin to see the
many similarities. They will realize that despite
the different customs, traditions and value
systems, we all share the same hopes and
dreams for the future. Peace will only come
when individual turn their hearts and minds
away from hatred, bitterness and exclusion
towards mutual respect, tolerance, justice and
sustainability.
My travel photography is probably a life long
