Ron and Pranks, our curious twins had heard a lot about
AB Vajpyee. Their parents remembered him as an ace
PM of India. Though Ron and Pranks hadn’t seen Mr.
Vajpyee or Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, they were
curious to know more about these Bharat Ratna
Awardees.
To them, the announcement of the award on the eve of
the 90th birthday of Mr. Vajpyee was fine, but the fact
that the award was being given to Pandit Malviya on his
153rd birth anniversary (long after his death), was
completely absurd.
So Rons and pranks asked Mummy papa who exactly
these people were and why was the civilian award of the
Highest Honour, graned to them.
Papa told Rons that Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya was a
freedom fighter and an educationist, most known for
founding the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in
Varanasi, in 1915. BHU is the largest residential
university in Asia and one of the largest in the world,
having over 12,000 students across arts, sciences,
engineering and technology.
