What is Breast Cancer?
The month of October is observed as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The
awareness program is an annual campaign initiated to provide information regarding the disease.
It aims to create awareness related to the early detection of the disease. The purpose is to raise funds for research, provide information and support to those affected by it.
However, there is a complete misconception pertaining to women, that they alone
are the victims of the disease. Male breast cancer, which is rare though, is largely
overlooked.
India has nearly 1.8 million people suffering from cancer. Patients suffering with
breast, cervical and oral cancers top the list. Every 13th new cancer patient in the
world is an Indian.
