World Food Day World Food Day (WFD) is celebrated on October 16, every year. World food day is a day of action against hunger. People around the world on this day (16 October) commit to end hunger. This day was first established on 1979 and is being celebrated ever since. The official goal of World food day is to "heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty." Every year there is a theme for World food day. This year the theme for the day is “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”. The theme this year highlights and raises awareness regarding the worldwide problems and solutions of food security and ridding the world of hunger. The World food day is also about raising awareness and calling for changes to the agriculture and food supply systems. Keeping this in mind Action for Humanity Foundation Trust (AFHFT a registered NGO) with help from its project team of kids from “Things by Kids For Kids” took the initiative of going house to house in DLF Phase 1 to create awareness amongst the society regarding this special day. The founder of this project Vaibhav Kumar (11 years), his sister Tanisha (9 years) and Shoarya Bhel (11 years), gave up their play time and happily volunteered to create this awareness and pledged to help the under privileged people near their society. Amongst the public of DLF Ph-1 were people who were genuinely concerned with this cause and came forward to show their concern by giving funds to feed those who are in need. There were those also who came out of their houses and praised the kids for the contribution they were making in the society by creating this awareness. After spending a few days into this project trying to cover as many houses as possible they managed to collect funds as to help about 25 families. So, AFHFT (Action for Humanity Foundation Trust), bought supplies to feed 25 families which will be distributed to the needy poor people who have very low income on 16th October. The project was successful and before we end we thank all the supporters who supported us in cash or kind to take this project forth and also a company called ELAN Limited, who trusted our initiative and helped us generously. The objective of this day is to understand the importance of food and it’s a learning in every sphere as small as it may be, so lets start at home by teaching our family members, kids, workers, & helpers not to waste food as food wasted can feed those who are dying of hunger.
